Ronnie Searle sent me an email March 20 2026 with "pictures of my Elf II EProm programmer board. It's originally from Netronics. I can't find any information on it." he says. Ronnie kept an Elf II with cards but "somehow my documentation got lost in the 48 years that I had this thing. I had to download it all [recently to work on restoring it]".
When asked about the chips he said: "There's a TL490ACN chip, a D8255AC-5, I can't make out the other chip. The numbers are rubbing off from age. 4 transistors that I can't make out. Possibly a 7805 regulator that numbers are wore off. Some resistors and 6 capacitors. five are electrolytics. And an ic socket and a DIP jumper. Other than that, that's all to the board."
Detail of text etched in copper says: "Netronics R&D ltd (c) 1982 - EPROM BD - PC 170 Rev B - alpha-7 94V0 S2 - 82". So Netronics identifies it as a "EPROM BD" maybe with some circuit board designation "PC 170 Rev B". I guess the PC board maker added "alpha-7 94V0 S2 - 82". The 82 is likely a year.
There's a TI TL497AIN chip on the board, or maybe a 494 or 490 as Ronnie says. It's likely in a circuit which generates the higher-voltage and pulses needed for EPROM programming. I've asked for details to identify that and other chips.
The VCFed museum has an Elf II with notes it has a card and docs for "eprom programmer 2716". I'll see if I can obtain a copy of those docs.
George Musser took some photos of his Elf II "and an EPROM programmer> and they appear on the cosmacelf.com Web site. no details on the EPROM board, it's presumably one of four boards shown on the Elf II backplane.
